CHARLIE DIMMOCK LENDS HER SUPPORT TO THE ALZHEIMER’S SHOW

 – Dedicated to Assisting People Living with Alzheimer’s & Dementia

11 March 2013 – Charlie Dimmock, gardening expert and TV presenter, today offered her support to the upcoming Alzheimer’s Show which is the first UK exhibition and conference dedicated to the needs of those living with dementia* and their carers, relatives and the professionals who support them.

Charlie said; “Having had experience of a close relative with dementia, I truly believe that we all need to become more informed about this dreadful illness and the impact it has on the individuals and families living with it.

“There are some wonderful resources out there in the community for people to access, however often people don’t learn about them until it’s too late.  Those behind this show should be applauded for working to change that,” continued Charlie Dimmock, gardening expert and TV presenter.

The Alzheimer’s show has been set-up in response to the call for greater assistance and understanding for those living with this dementia and aims to provide a single venue where people can come to find out about the services and products available to make living with dementia easier.

Run in association with Great British Care Shows, The Alzheimer’s Show is partnered by the UK’s leading research charity Alzheimer’s Research UK and supported by David Cameron, Prime Minister, Professor Alistair Burns, the government’s dementia Tsar and Lynda Bellingham, actress and ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and supported by organisations such as SweetTree Home Care Services who are specialist providers of care and support for those with dementia.

Keynote speakers and exhibitors from Alzheimer’s Research UK, The Law Society and SweetTree Home Care Serivces are amongst the many organisations that will be imparting knowledge and discussing how products and services can help to ease the burden and uncertainty of dementia.  One-to-one advice clinics will also be offered throughout the show by Admiral Nurses from Dementia UK.

David Cameron, Prime Minister, said: “Dementia is one of the most important issues we face as a society. The Alzheimer’s Show is an excellent opportunity to help raise awareness and understanding of dementia and to help ensure that people with dementia, their carers and families get the services and support they need.”

“The Alzheimer’s Show was born from an urgent need to recognise and support the growing numbers of people in the UK whose lives are affected by dementia.  There are currently 800,000 adults, from as young as 40, living with the disease in the UK.  This figure is set to rise to 1.7 million people within 40 years,” explained Nigel Ward, Founder of The Alzheimer’s Show

“For many, life becomes difficult and support can be hard to find.  We understand that we are living in an era of austerity in public services and therefore the need for this event has never been greater,” continued Nigel Ward, Founder of The Alzheimer’s Show.

“The objective of the Alzheimer’s Show is to link-up individuals living with dementia, and their carers, friends, family, with the professionals and organisations which have the products and services that can make an immediate and very real difference to the lives of people with dementia. Often these products are hard to find, or their existence is not known.  Our aim is to bring them all under one roof,” concluded Nigel Ward.

Linda Bellingham, actress and supporter of the Alzheimer’s Show explained the importance of the show: “Nearly half of us know someone in the UK with or affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia.  It is an important social issue and The Alzheimer’s Show will bring together the best information, products and services that can make an immediate and real difference to people’s lives.”
