The Alzheimer’s Show and Alzheimer’s Society to Bring Dementia Experts, Support Services and Advice under One Roof

– All people with dementia in their lives can find the help they need to cope with the physical and emotional demands of living with, or caring for someone, with memory or cognition problems
– Meet people who can share their experiences with you and how they have found positive ways to live with dementia in their family
– 5th & 6th June 2015, London Olympia

5th May 2015: The Alzheimer’s Show is returning to London for the third year on June 5th & 6th 2015. A key focus this year is “Caring for the Carer”, while continuing to maintain the broad platform of speakers, practical workshops and activities.

This breadth of expert advice has made The Alzheimer’s Show the recognised annual destination for people wanting to find the latest information on drug developments, treatments, care management and products and solutions designed and developed specifically for dementia.

Feedback from previous years has revealed that as a carer, people often feel overwhelmed and depressed and have difficulty coping with the physical and emotional demands of the person they care for.

In partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, SweetTree Homecare Services and Re:Cognition Health, we will pull together all the resources, services and support that these carers need under one roof.

Provisioning equally for those needing or wanting to bring a relative or friend with dementia, or for visitors with early on-set dementia coming on their own, there are activities, rest facilities and areas where SweetTree carers can provide specialist support and respite.

Meet the dementia experts and free memory screening
This year we welcome back Angela Rippon to host the panel debates and experts from all fields including medical research and care management. A list of speakers and presentations can be found on The Alzheimer’s Show website.

Admiral Nurse – Rikki Lorenti, will offer expert advice, information and psychological support to family carers and visitors living with dementia and explain how his role with SweetTree Home Care Services was developed in close partnership with Dementia UK.

Rikki joined SweetTree from YPWD (Younger People With Dementia) and has a deep knowledge of both dementia care and care for older people.

Consultant Neuroradiologist – Dr MacSweeney, is CEO and Medical Director of Re:Cognition Health. She has extensive experience, specialising in interventional vascular neuroradiology.

Dr MacSweeney has developed a special interest in neuroradiology of cognitive impairment disorders and has considerable experience in the imaging of neurovascular diseases. With the help of Medici Global, Dr MacSweeney will be offering memory screening at The Alzheimer’s Show.

Living with dementia – Chris and Jayne Roberts talk about living with young on-set Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia
Chris Roberts was diagnosed with young on-set vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease recently. He is in his early 50s and lives in Wales with his wife Jayne and their 16 year old daughter.

Jayne became Chris’ carer, an increasingly challenging and socially isolating change in their family circumstances as Chris’ symptoms continue to become more pronounced. Jayne also continues to care for their 16 year old daughter, whilst taking over the responsibilities in their home and wider life that were once naturally Chris’.

To share their experiences of living with dementia in the family, Chris and Jayne write a blog called ‘Dementia Survivor’.

Chris is helping to make people aware of the illness and to give some insight into the diagnosed and what this means to someone with dementia and their carers while Jayne wants people to understand the need for society to care for the carers.

Both Chris and Jayne will be speaking at the show and taking questions in a session hosted by Angela Rippon.

“With the number of people now being diagnosed with early on-set dementia and an aging populations, there are now 1,000s of people caught in a “care sandwich”, caring for both a parent and spouse with Alzheimer’s or a related condition, while still parenting children and often having to maintain the family finances. This is incredibly hard.

“Our intention is to provide the advice and access to service these people need to continue to live fulfilling family lives,” explained Nigel Word, founder of The Alzheimer’s Show.
