DEMENTIA INTERPRETERS TRAINING COURSE
The Dementia Interpreters course is the first experiential course specifically designed to focus on the communication needs for people living with dementia.
Experience the full practical session of the Dementia Interpreters in 1-hour Dementia Interpreter workshop exclusively at The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Show.
The aim of the course is to enable people to start learning the language of dementia and realise that communication never stops, it might simply be that it is happening in ways that we don’t currently recognise.
During the Dementia Interpreters course, delegates will experience some of the communication barriers that a person living with dementia may also experience through the use of specially designed equipment. Delegates will have their speech, vision, hearing and movement impaired to build understanding and empathy.
Delegates will learn a range of techniques and strategies that can be used to more effectively communicate with people, and develop new skills to help them more accurately interpret what people may be communicating through their actions and behaviours. Click here for more information.
Most excitingly the initial course is just the first step in learning the language of dementia. Every person that completes the Dementia Interpreter course has the opportunity to become a registered Dementia Interpreter on the Dementia Dictionary, the world’s first completely free to use resource helping people to interpret behaviours and actions they see displayed by people living with dementia.
People can search the dictionary for behaviours and actions they see but don’t understand and be provided with a range of possible interpretations. These interpretations are all provided by our worldwide network of Dementia Interpreters based on their own knowledge and first hand experience.
You can access the Dementia Dictionary by visiting www.dementiadictionary.com or by downloading the free Dementia Dictionary app from wherever you normally download your apps from.
